Get ready for some heartwarming mid-year merriment! The Bellingen CWA is celebrating Christmas in July with a purpose: backing precision medicine for cancer patients.
The Bellingen branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) is inviting the community to share in the spirit of giving at its Christmas in July fundraiser on Friday 25 July from 11.30am to 1.30pm at the CWA Rooms in Church Street in Bellingen.
This heartwarming event is not just a chance to enjoy festive fare and connect with neighbours—it’s also an opportunity to raise vital funds for Love Your Sister, a nationally recognised cancer charity championing precision medicine: ensuring the right treatment for every patient, the first time.
Love Your Sister was co-founded in 2012 by actor Samuel Johnson and his late sister Connie after her terminal cancer diagnosis. Since then, the charity has raised nearly $20 million, all of which goes directly to cancer research. Their current focus is on revolutionising cancer care by funding personalised, patient-specific treatment options through cutting-edge science.
The Bellingen CWA was inspired to support the charity after meeting Samuel Johnson at the CWA State Conference in Coffs Harbour in 2024. His story, commitment, and energy struck a powerful chord.
“This event brings together the things we value most: community, compassion, and meaningful action,” said Kaye Guinness, President of the Bellingen CWA Branch.
“Love Your Sister’s dedication to precision medicine is inspiring, and we’re proud to contribute to such important work.”
As part of CWA’s support for Love your Sister, members are also knitting gloves for people currently undergoing cancer treatment—a small but meaningful gesture of warmth and care for those walking a difficult path.
Guests can look forward to a virtual appearance by Samuel Johnson, where he’ll share his story, the legacy of his sister Connie, and the vital work Love Your Sister continues to do across the country.
With a lucky door prize, festive food, and a spirit of generosity, the Christmas in July fundraiser carries on the proud legacy of the CWA. Founded in 1922 to combat isolation and lack of healthcare in rural areas, the CWA has grown into Australia’s largest women’s organisation. The Bellingen branch remains active and community-focused—supporting local schools, Watson Place residents, the Bellingen Show, and global aid initiatives through fundraising events.“The funds raised today will go directly to Love Your Sister,” said Ms Guinness. “And for anyone who’d like to contribute more, we’ll also have a donation bucket and bank transfer details available.”
