Bellingen Valley Dorrigo dominates Orara Valley for big win

After knocking on the door all season, the Bellingen Valley Dorrigo Magpies finally broke through for a dominant 42-12 victory over the Orara Valley Axemen at Coramba Sports Ground on the weekend, signaling a turning point in their Hastings League campaign.

After threatening a few times this season to register a win in the Hastings League competition, it finally happened at Coramba Sports Ground on the weekend.  The Bellingen Valley Dorrigo Magpies defeating the Orara Valley Axeman 42 to 12.   With the return of Captain Coach Ryan Woods and the inclusion of Luke Beaumont to steer the Magpies around the park, things finally seemed to click.  In the fourth minute, Luke made a 70metre break passing to Seth Martin for a try.  Seth converted and the Magpies were off to a confidence building start.  Liam Cook followed up with a hard run up the middle of the Orara defence to score.   Seth converted and the Magpies led 12 to 0.  For the next 15 minutes the Magpie defence was under a lot of pressure from the axmen, but the Magpies managed to hold them out.  Eventually, Luke Belmont again split the defence to score, taking the Magpies to 18 to 0. A dropped bomb saw the Axman score right on the half time bell.  A successful conversion saw the players go to oranges at 18-6.

The second half was mostly all oneway traffic for the Magpies as Blake O’Connor scored two tries, Cody Britnell,  Lochie French and Seth Martin all scored tries.  Seth converting 2 of them.  All credit to the Axemen as they hung in to score right on the fulltime siren to leave the score at 42 to 12 to the Magpies.  The Magpies play Kendall at Kendall next Saturday.
