Inclusive Christian gathering flourishes in Bellingen Park

BELLINGEN – A unique Christian gathering rooted in environmental advocacy and radical inclusivity has blossomed in Bellingen, offering a welcoming space for all, particularly the LGBTQIA+ community.
FOLK is a small environmentally engaged, queer affirming Christian gathering, to which all people of good will are welcome, every Sunday at 2pm. Find us in the Northwest Corner of Bellingen Park to reflect, share, pray and listened to music together.

Leadership is shared amongst Miriam Pepper, from the Forest Advocacy Ministry, Pastor Jessi Levy, and Rev. Jason John, all leaders in the Uniting Church with a passion for forest protection and truly inclusive Christian community.

It should go without saying that a church is queer affirming, but sadly that’s rarely been the case. By making this explicit, some people seem to think FOLK is only for queer people, but everyone is welcome who will make others welcome as we explore Jesus’ Way in the twenty-first century.

People outside the Shire are welcome, too- Rowena travelled all the way from Coffs Harbour by bicycle to join in, saying, “This was an opportunity to invite the Spirit in me into communion with the Spirit that binds together creation and lives in each of my fellow folk. This was a beautifully created, free and intentional space.”
