New Rescue Jet Ski for Urunga as Summer Patrols Return

The Urunga Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) will be receiving a new rescue jet ski as part of an investment by the NSW Government in Surf Life Saving NSW.

It will be one of 26 additional rescue jet skis statewide rolled out this year, bringing the total fleet to 56. Last year alone, jet skis were used in 260 rescues across New South Wales, proving to be an essential tool for lifesavers.

Member for Oxley, Michael Kemp, welcomed two new jet skis for the electorate- one for Urunga and one for the Crescent Hed SLSC- as volunteer patrols return for the summer season on 27 September.

“Our beaches are spectacular, but they can also be unforgiving. With strong currents and thousands of visitors flocking here over the summer holidays, it’s vital that our surf life savers have the right tools to keep people safe,” Mr Kemp said.

“These new rescue jet skis for Crescent Head and Urunga will give our volunteers the speed and agility they need to respond when someone is in trouble. Seconds matter, and this equipment will save lives.”

“This investment in new jet skis and technology is only as strong as the people behind it, and our region is lucky to have some of the most dedicated life savers in the state.”

The investment is also supported by the rollout of new Emergency Response Beacons (ERBs) across the state, backed by drone surveillance. These beacons allow for rapid alerts to emergency services at unpatrolled beaches, with 64 units set to be operational once the rollout is complete.
