Stables Grant Success for upgrades to the Stables in Bellingen

The Bellingen Community Arts Council (BCAC) was recently successful in their application to the New South Wales government’s Community Building Partnerships Program for a grant to make upgrades to the Stables building in Bellingen.

The BCAC has been awarded funds totaling $36,121 with which the following improvements will be made.

Floors will be polished and sealed, existing metal louvred windows fitted with glass louvres and a ceiling installed. Acoustics in the activities room will be improved with installation of curtains/panels. A drain or damp course will be installed around the building, helping to preserve the heritage bricks.

The historic Stables, once the police horse stables, has been serving community and arts groups in Bellingen for over six years.

‘This grant will allow improvements to the Stables that will increase the comfort and usability of the space and help to ensure the preservation of this lovely old building for future community and arts endeavors.’ Julie Hutchinson, coordinator.
