Traffic has been switched over onto three new concrete bridges on Darkwood Road (Justins, Hobarts and Joyces).
The old Joyces and Justins bridges have been removed, and Hobarts bridge will be removed this week. Council will be still performing all the finishing works on these bridges.
Duffys Bridge on Kalang Road is still under construction, with the intention to switch traffic onto the bridge in October once finishing works are complete.
These new bridges are part of the Fixing Country Bridges Program, which will see our ageing timber bridges repaired, rehabilitated, or replaced. This project, which is nearly complete, improve the integrity of the bridges and reduce recurrent maintenance costs into the future.
Bellingen Shire’s timber bridge network is the fourth largest timber bridge network in the state.

The aging Joyce’s Bridge on Darkwood Road was originally built in the 1960s. The new bridge is a single lane, concrete bridge, lifted in height by 1.5 metres.
