Get Online Week: Free BBQ & Phone Help for Adults at Bellingen Event

A free community event this month will offer Urunga residents hands-on help to build confidence using their everyday technology, from smartphones to tablets.

Need a hand with your phone? Want to learn how to do more with your tablet, or just curious about what your device can really do?

Come along to the Get Online Week event on Wednesday 22nd October from 10am to 12pm outside Urunga Neighbourhood Centre — a free, friendly event designed to help adults build confidence using everyday technology.

Hosted as part of the national Get Online Week campaign, this local event is all about making digital skills simple, fun, and accessible. Whether you’re a total beginner, or just want to learn a few new tricks, there’s something here for everyone.

Best of all? There’ll be a free BBQ, friendly faces, and hands-on help from local digital mentors.

What’s It All About?

Get Online Week is a nationwide initiative aimed at helping Australians feel more confident and connected in our increasingly digital world. From using apps and settings, to taking better photos or managing your contacts — learning a few simple tips can make everyday life easier.

“Technology is a big part of staying connected these days — to services, to family, to community,” says Lauren Mills, event organiser “But not everyone feels confident using it. That’s where this event comes in — it’s relaxed, local, and all about giving people the support they need.”

What You Can Expect:

• Free BBQ lunch

• One-on-one help with phones and tablets

• Short how-to sessions: taking photos, blocking callers, email tips, using apps, phone settings and more.

• Help with finding trusted information online

• A chance to meet others and learn what support Urunga Neighbourhood Centre brings to the community.

The event is aimed at adults, especially older residents, but everyone is welcome — bring your phone, tablet, and any questions you’ve been too shy to ask!

Why It Matters

Many everyday tasks — from booking appointments to keeping in touch with loved ones — now rely on digital skills. But not everyone had the chance to grow up with this technology.

“Digital inclusion is about making sure nobody gets left behind,” says Lauren. “Even learning one small thing — like how to increase the text size or use voice commands — can make a big difference.”
