The dance floor is calling! Local organiser Louey Howell is bringing a fresh event to the area with the Full Moon Dance at Thora Hall on Friday, November 7, kicking off the night with a massive sound journey and chakra dance before launching into a line-up of stellar non-stop music.

A new Full Moon Dance event is being held in the area, Friday 7th November at Thora Hall with five great acts playing non stop: Funkatu, Tanuki, Tik Tik Boom, Beatress and a special sound journey to start the night. We caught up with event organiser and Funkatu founder, Louey Howell to give us the lowdown of the event:  “I’m really excited about the Full Moon Dance. It’s going to be a great event, we have some amazing artists on board.  The FUNKATU Collective will be launching their debut album at the event which is pretty exciting in itself. I’m very proud of this album. We’ve put a lot of work into it and I think the result speaks for itself.

Tanuki are a great band. If you haven’t seen them I very much recommend coming to check them out as they are top quality musicians putting on a fantastic show (my personal favourite band from River Sounds Fest!), actually one of my all time favorite bands.

Also I’m very excited about Tik Tik BOOM! Both Greg Sheehan and Luke Rhodes are great friends and amazing musicians and I’m be excited to be be creating a set of wild drums and percussion with these two. Beatress is a fantastic Nimbin based DJ who will be taking over the d-floor during the band changeovers to keep those non-stop beats pumpin’ all evening.  There will also be a massive opening ceremony/sound journey and chakra dance with the amazing Natalie Almond, Uncle Miklo Jarrett and Luke Rhodes along with myself and Greg Sheehan. The intent is to lift the energy and set a vibe for the evening.  Actually most of these artists have recorded on the Funkatu album so we’re super glad to have them all on board to help celebrate the album launch!

The whole event was really inspired by a gig Funkatu did in SE QLD called The Verrierdale Hall Full Moon Dance. It was such a great event and I got really inspired to do something similar in our local area so this is hopefully the first of many to come.

We decided to make this first event a culmination of a bunch of ideas that we had stewing in the pot for a while, including the FUNKATU album launch. But I think opening the event with the sound journey is something different that I thought would be a great way to set off a gig, to help get people on a natural high and ready to dance the night away.  Looking forward to seeing all your beautiful faces on the dance floor.”

Of course turn up anytime for a great time: there will be yummy curry, chai cakes available on the night.
