Sunday, 9 November, saw C.ex Urunga Golf Club host the annual SGT Matthew Locke MG Charity Ambrose, an event held in honour of one of Bellingen’s most respected sons. Sergeant Matthew Locke, a former SASR member and recipient of the Medal for Gallantry, was born and raised in the Shire and is remembered for his courage, leadership, and deep connection to the local community. Each year, the charity golf day brings players together not only for friendly competition, but to pay tribute to a man whose legacy continues to inspire both the region and the wider veteran community.

The two-player Ambrose attracted 20 determined teams, with visitors featuring strongly across the morning. The standout performance came from David Reeves and Kristy Hickey of Coffs Harbour Golf Club, whose superb round of 60.5 secured first place. Just behind them were Lawrie Renshall and Peter Wood, combining smoothly for a total of 60.75 to claim second. Third went to Brett Bosbach and Tom Faulkner with an excellent 61.75, rounding out a tightly grouped leaderboard that reflected consistent scoring across the field.

David Reeves added the longest drive to his list of achievements for the day. Nearest the pin honours were shared among several players: David McBaron was closest on the 3rd, 12th, and 18th; Mathew Hendy claimed the 9th; and Tom Faulkner took the 16th. Players left the course with smiles and stories, reflecting the success of a day that brought the community together beautifully.
