C.ex Urunga’s Men’s Vets set the tone for a busy fortnight on Monday, 3 November, with John Leahy leading the field of 33 thanks to a confident 38 points. Arthur Hassett followed closely on 37, while Joe Street secured third on 36 after a countback. Accuracy was the order of the day, with Kim Michelsen taking nearest the pin on the 3rd, Neil Richardson on the 9th, and Brett Bosbach on the 18th.

The Ladies’ Single Stableford on Wednesday, 5 November, saw Rosalyn Inskip hit form, finishing on 40 points to claim first place. Lyn Bastick earned second with 38 after a countback, narrowly ahead of Donna Navin, who also carded 38.

Thursday, 6 November, brought a lively Medley competition, with Anthony Shields producing an excellent 41 points to take the win. Martin Tizzard claimed second with 39 on a countback, just ahead of John Leahy, who matched the total. Nearest the pin winners were Leahy on the 3rd, while Garry Swain delivered a remarkable sweep of the remaining three short holes, claiming the 9th, 12th, and 18th.

Friday, 7 November, delivered some exceptional scoring in the Ladies’ event, topped by a brilliant 45 points from Rose Wiblin. Rosalyn Inskip followed with another strong performance with 43, and third place went to Deborah Lindsay with a strong 42.

A field of 30 contested the Medley competition on Saturday, 8 November, where Jenny Tierney led the way with 40 points. Glenn Petersen finished one behind on 39, while Colin Haworth secured third with 38 on a countback. The nearest the pins were spread among several players, with Garry Swain winning the 3rd, Mike Edsall taking both the 9th and 12th, and Joe Street claiming the 16th and 18th.

The following Monday, 10 November, saw another tightly contested Men’s Vets competition, with three players finishing atop the table on 38 points. After the countback, the honours went to Anthony Shields, followed by Andrew O’Keeffe and John Anselmi. Nearest the pin winners were Arthur Hassett on the 3rd, Michael Bellew on the 9th, and Peter Inskip on the 18th.

On Wednesday, 12 November, the Ladies returned, and it was once again Rosalyn Inskip who stood out, this time with a superb 44 points. Karen Kennedy took second with 43, while Anne Cameron secured third after carding 40.

Thursday, 13 November, saw the Medley Stableford contested by 22 players, with John Piggott rising to the top thanks to a solid 40 points. Robert Jones followed on 37, and third place went to Anthony Shields with 36 after prevailing in a countback. Shields also dominated the nearest the pin results, taking the honours on the 3rd, 12th, and 18th, while John Leahy claimed the 9th.

The fortnight concluded on Saturday, 15 November, with a 2-Player Ambrose event. Nick Ciolac and Allan Thomas combined smoothly for a winning total of 63. Ross Walburn and Peter Drysdale finished second on 63.75, while third place went to Dale Jenner and Terry O’Neill with 65.5. Nearest the pin winners were Peter Jenson on the 3rd, Anthony Campbell on the 9th, Warren Rawlings on the 12th, Arthur Hassett on the 16th, and Ciolac again featuring with a win on the 18th.

Looking ahead, the Urunga Surf Club Charity Golf Day is set for Friday, 5 December, offering a fantastic opportunity to support a vital local organisation. The event will be played as a three-person Ambrose, with entry at $200 per team, which includes a barbecue lunch and a drink voucher for each player. It promises to be a lively and enjoyable day on the course, all in aid of a great community cause
