Community aid police in crash arrest

Police have thanked the Bellingen community for their “vital assistance” in arresting two men who fled a car accident in Hyde Street on Saturday. 

Emergency services were called to Hyde Street just after 7.00am following reports of a dual cab ute hitting a power pole, cutting power to the area.  

Officers attached to Coffs-Clarence Police District attended and quickly established a crime scene after locating a loaded semi-automatic rifle inside the vehicle.

“Thanks to community assistance, officers located and arrested two men on Ford St, Bellingen at 10am,” a Coffs-Clarence Police District spokesperson said. 

“One resisted arrest; the other was carrying a quantity of cash. The vehicle, firearm, cash, and other items were seized by police.” 

“Police thank the Bellingen community for their support and vital assistance provided during the Policing Operation.”

The two men, both aged 39, face serious firearm and property offences and have been remanded in custody. Police allegedly located $9627 cash on one man.

They were both men refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 today on Sunday 30 November.  

The vehicle, firearm, cash, and clothing and a hatchet that were located nearby, were all seized for forensic examination.
