Got 30 Minutes a Week and a Curious Mind? Why Not Shape Young Hearts & Minds!

Primary Ethics Volunteers for 2025 from left to right – Jonathan Wood, Carlie Fitzgerald and Michael Johnston

Bellingen Public School is calling on local residents to volunteer for the rewarding role of running weekly ethics classes for students next year, offering children a safe, secular space to explore life’s biggest questions.

We’re on the lookout for volunteers to help run weekly ethics classes for kids at Bellingen Public School next year.

Primary Ethics brings thoughtful, discussion-based classes to schools, helping children explore everyday questions like “Is it fair?”, “What’s the right thing to do?” or “How do we treat others with respect?” Volunteers don’t have to be professional teachers — just over 18, friendly, open-minded and curious.

Classes run for only about 30 minutes a week (plus a bit of light prep), giving youngsters a chance to think about values, fairness, kindness and choices in a safe, secular, respectful environment.

All training — online or in person — is provided for free, along with lesson materials and ongoing support. No prior teaching experience is required. As one long-time volunteer puts it:

“I have been an Ethics teacher for a year now and can honestly say it is one of the most interesting and rewarding things I have ever been involved with.”

If you’ve ever thought “I’d like to give something back”, meet children from different backgrounds or simply stretch your mind while helping kids learn to think — this is your chance.
