The Dorrigo Support Centre hosted its Annual Christmas Lunch at the Dorrigo Community Hall – a much-loved day on the social calendar for Dorrigo senior citizens and their support network.
Bellingen Shire Council Deputy Mayor Cr. Graeme Shephard represented the Mayor at the event, sharing heartfelt words of appreciation for the incredible staff, dedicated contractors, and local businesses who make this event possible for our community.
“This annual event is our way of expressing our appreciation and gratitude to our seniors, who form the backbone of our community,” said Cr. Shephard.
“I want to thank the incredible team at the Dorrigo Support Centre who together with a dedicated team of contractors, support more than 200 seniors to live safe and well at home. Their work ensures that seniors feel valued and cherished, not only during the festive season but all year round.”
“I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the Dorrigo businesses who turn up when needed and show their support with donations throughout the year and especially for today’s event.”
The event showcased the spirit of the plateau, with local musician John Peppercorn providing live music, student volunteers from the Dorrigo High School serving lunch, Dorrigo Rotary Club served tea and coffee, and a team of volunteers preparing the feast for 186 guests and volunteers, with 46 meals delivered for seniors who were unable to attend in person.
Bellingen Shire Council General Manager Mark Griffioen was honoured to attend the event, and congratulated Dorrigo Support Centre Coordinator Alex Mooney and her team for all they do for seniors on the plateau.
“Council is proud of the services delivered through the Dorrigo Support Centre which plays such a central role in the wellbeing and thriving of so many people,” said Mark Griffioen.
“The hall looked stunning, and everyone brought their Christmas cheer, making the day a joy to attend. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful celebration - the annual Seniors Christmas Luncheon is more than just a meal, it’s a celebration of Dorrigo’s tight-knit community, and their ability to support and encourage connection.”
