Bigger Than Ben Hur: LEGO® Blockbuster Coming to Coffs Harbour

The immersive LEGO®-based exhibition focuses on 12 vintage objects left on Earth after humans have drained the planet of its natural resources.

After a highly successful run at the Australian Museum in Sydney, RELICS: A New World Rises is coming to Coffs Harbour in March.

The immersive LEGO®-based exhibition focuses on 12 vintage objects left on Earth after humans have drained the planet of its natural resources. Inside each object is a detailed and imaginative society built by LEGO® mini figures.

From a refrigerator turned cryogenic health resort to a typewriter repurposed as a newspaper headquarters, LEGO® Masters champions and best friends Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler have created whole worlds inside nostalgic objects, with adults and children in mind.

The exhibition will open to the public at the Yarrila Arts and Museum (YAM) from 28 March to 19 July.

LEGO® Master Alex Towler said the exhibition features layered storytelling with details for all ages, an interactive building area where you can build and share your own LEGO® model and scavenger hunts for adults and children

“RELICS is for everyone, old and young. Kids will get excited by the intricate LEGO® but this exhibition has really been created with adults in mind, the objects themselves are full of nostalgia and the stories we’re telling have a lot of references that only adults will understand,” Alex said.

“We’re really excited to be bringing RELICS to Coffs Harbour for our first regional Australian stop.”

Coffs Harbour City Council Mayor Nikki Williams RELICS is a thrilling addition to YAM’s exhibitions in 2026.

“This is going to be bigger than a Ben Hur made of LEGO® bricks for Coffs Harbour,” Mayor Williams said.

“It’s a fantastic coup to secure this exhibition and it will delight the local community and draw visitors from all around.”

Museum and Gallery Service Leader Carrie Kibbler said RELICS will be the latest chapter in that evolving story of pushing boundaries and delivering premium immersive experiences for the community.

“The artefacts will spark a sense of reminiscence while the mini-worlds inside will intrigue people of all ages,” Ms Kibbler said.

“YAM has set the bar high in hosting out-of-the-box exhibitions since opening in 2023.”

“We’ve commissioned a special edition of the internationally acclaimed Modern Guru and hosted the global art collective teamLab, and we were the first regional gallery in Australia to do both.”

Tickets will be available from 9 February. You can sign up now to go on a VIP List at yamcoffs.com.au/relics and enter a draw to win a family pass.
