Got an Hour a Week and a Sense of Adventure?

Meaghan Burkett (Cub Leader) with Cub Scouts Xanthe and Julian

We’re Looking for Scout Leaders and Volunteers in Bellingen

The Bellingen Scout Group is on the lookout for new volunteers and leaders to help support our local Scouts.

Scouting is all about community, adventure and fun. You don’t have to be “scouty” or have any prior experience to be involved. What we really need are ordinary local people who are willing to show up, have a go, and be part of something meaningful. Many of our leaders are parents, grandparents, retirees, or young adults who simply enjoy being part of a community.

As a Scout leader or volunteer, you’ll help young people learn practical skills, join in the activities, meet people you might not otherwise cross paths with, and become part of a strong, welcoming local community. Our activities range from outdoor adventures and creative projects to games and community involvement. Along the way, there’s plenty of laughter, play, and learning — for adults as well as kids. Leaders often say they’re surprised by how much they get out of it themselves.

All training is provided free of charge, with mentoring and ongoing support. Training can also lead to recognised qualifications in areas such as outdoor skills, leadership and first aid — a bonus many volunteers don’t expect. There are also courses and camps for sailing, abseiling, canoeing, diving and all sorts of activities.

The time commitment is simple: around one to two hours, one night a week during school terms. We work as a team, support each other, and there’s flexibility if you can’t make it every week.

If you’re curious and up for trying something new, we’d love to hear from you.
