Veterans and Medley Stars Fire Up Ahead of $1100 Urunga Open

Play on Monday, 9 February 2026 saw a strong field contest the Men’s Veterans Stableford, where Kevin Sanford produced the round of the day with an excellent 40 points to claim first place, finishing three clear of Terry Van Dyk on 37, while Selwyn Newby secured third with 36. Nearest-the-pin honours went to Graeme Cantrill on the 3rd, Peter Inskip on the 9th, and Warren Rawlings on the 18th, while Bruce Parker took out the longest putt prizes on the 8th green.
Competition on Wednesday, 11 February 2026 featured a Ladies Single Stableford with Jenny Tierney leading the way on 37 points. Dianne O’Leary claimed second on a countback with 36, just ahead of Marie Cooper, also on 36, in a closely contested finish.
The Medley Stableford on Thursday, 12 February 2026 produced the best score of the week as Douglas Springall carded a superb 41 points to win convincingly. Bruce Parker took second with 35 on countback from Peter Wood in third. Nearest-the-pin prizes were secured by Linne Street at the 3rd, Martin Tizzard at the 9th, Anthony Shields at the 16th, and Bruce Moore at the 18th.
A field of 25 returned despite the rain for the Men’s Veterans Stableford on Monday, 16 February 2026, where Lawrie Renshall led the scoring with 41 points. Tom Faulkner followed in second with 36, while Grant Cardow finished third on 34. Kim Michelsen dominated the nearest-the-pin contests, winning both the 3rd and 9th holes, with Ross Hardaker closest on the 18th, and the longest putt prizes on the 8th going to Pete Brotherton.
The Ladies Monthly Stableford Bonanza on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 resulted in a tight finish as Dianne O’Leary prevailed on countback with 36 points, edging Jenny Tierney into second despite matching scores, while Faye Jones placed third with 35 on countback.
Medley Stableford competition on Thursday, 19 February 2026 saw Lawrie Renshall continue his strong form, winning with 40 points. Ross Hardaker finished second on 37 and James Anderson was third with 36. Nearest-the-pin winners were Renshall at the 9th, Warren Rawlings at the 16th, and Michael Bellew at the 18th.
Pairs took to the course on Friday, 20 February 2026 for an American Foursomes event, where Marie Cooper and Dianne O’Leary combined effectively to post 90 and secure victory. Deborah Lindsay and Lyn Bastick placed second with 93 on countback, while Lisa Guest and Jenny Tierney were third with 93.
A strong field of 50 contested the Medley Two-Player Ambrose on Saturday, 21 February 2026, with Grant Homes and Bruce Moore producing an outstanding 63 to win. Glenn Petersen and Tom Cornelius finished second on 63.25, while Scott Saunders and Ross Walburn claimed third with 63.75 on countback. Nearest-the-pin prizes were collected by Roger Young at the 3rd, John McKenzie at the 9th, Anthony Buckley at both the 12th and 18th, and Arthur Hassett at the 16th.
Attention is now turning to the upcoming Urunga Open to be held at C.ex Urunga Golf Club on Sunday, 15 March 2026, where players will compete for a prize pool of $1100 with an entry fee of $25, an event expected to draw a strong field from across the region.
