A Grade Glory: Petersen Claims Monthly Medal at C.ex Urunga

A field of 30 contested the Men’s Veterans Stableford at C.ex Urunga Golf Club on Monday, 23 February 2026, with John Leahy producing an excellent round of 41 points to take first place. Paul Bastick was close behind with 40 points to claim second, while Peter Inskip secured third on a countback with 38. Nearest-the-pin winners were Anthony Shields on the 3rd, Tom Faulkner on the 9th, and Michael Bellew on the 18th. 

Brett Bosbach collected the longest putt prizes on the 8th/17th, while Warren Rawlings also featured with a great score after recording an eagle on the 11th hole.

The Ladies Single Stableford on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 saw Faye Jones lead the field with 37 points. Donna Navin finished second on 33 points after a countback, edging out Rose Wiblin who placed third with the same score.

Competition continued on Thursday, 26 February 2026 with a Medley Stableford, where Peter Jenson posted 38 points to claim the win. John Buganey, visiting from Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club, finished second with 34, while Brett Bosbach secured third on a countback with 31. Nearest-the-pin prizes went to Ross Hardaker on the 3rd and 18th holes, while Jenson also featured by claiming the 9th and 16th.

The Ladies returned on Friday, 27 February 2026 for a Single Stableford event with Cindy Wall, from Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club, producing a standout round of 41 points to win. Lyn Bastick finished second with 36 points, while Marlene Bishop claimed third on a countback with 35.

A Medley Single Stableford was played on Saturday, 28 February 2026, where Anthony Buckley, representing Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club, took first place with 39 points. David McBaron finished second with 36, while Peter Cocks placed third with 32 on countback. Nearest-the-pin winners were Bruce Moore on the 3rd, McBaron on the 9th, Michael Trist on the 12th, Arthur Hassett on the 16th, and Roger Young on the 18th.

Veterans were back in action on Monday, 2 March 2026 with Alan Titley taking the win on a countback after scoring 35 points. Peter Inskip finished second with the same score, while Brett Bosbach placed third with 33. Nearest-the-pin prizes went to Bruce Parker on the 3rd, Michael Bellew on the 9th, and John Leahy on the 18th, while Tom Faulkner secured the longest putts on the 8th and 17th.

The Sue Valentine Memorial Stableford was contested on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, with Christine Fahey producing an outstanding 40 points to take first place. Faye Jones finished second with 39, while Donna Navin claimed third with 35 points.

A strong field of 23 played in the Medley Single Stableford on Thursday, 5 March 2026, where Wally McGill topped the leaderboard with 39 points. John Buganey finished second on a countback with 38, while Bruce Parker placed third with the same score. Nearest-the-pin prizes went to Douglas Springall on the 3rd, John Leahy on the 9th, Anthony Shields on the 12th, Buganey on the 16th, and Robert Perl on the 18th.

The Ladies Single Stableford on Friday, 6 March 2026 saw Christine Fahey continue her strong form with a winning score of 41 points. Rose Wiblin finished second on a countback with 39, just ahead of Wendy Martin who also scored 39 to take third place.

The Monthly Medal was contested on Saturday, 7 March 2026, played as a Men’s Single Stroke event. Glenn Petersen produced the round of the day with a nett 68 to claim the Monthly Medal and win A Grade, with Arthur Hassett finishing second in the grade. Bruce Moore secured B Grade honours with a nett 70 on countback, edging out Peter Cocks in second place. In C Grade, James Hurley from Kyogle Golf Club claimed victory with a nett 72, while Brett Bosbach finished second. Nearest-the-pin prizes were won by Kevin Sanford on the 9th, Arthur Hassett on the 12th, Doug Hurley on the 16th, and David McBaron on the 18th.

This Sunday, 15 March, will see the Urunga Open played, with a strong field expected for what promises to be an excellent day of golf. Tee times are still available, and anyone wishing to take part is encouraged to contact the club on 6655 6166.
