Coffs Harbour is about to get a little bit bananas in an attempt to grab a world record for the largest banana formation made by people. the at Jetty Beach.
Hundreds of locals will gather at Jetty beach on Saturday 11 April to form a giant human banana on the sand in a playful celebration of the region’s rich banana heritage.
The region has a proud banana-growing history and, over time, the city has grown into a destination loved by generations of Australian families. For many, Coffs Harbour is woven into childhood holiday memories: Road trips, beach days and discovering a place where the ocean, rainforest and mountains meet.
The event, to be hosted by Channel Nine’s Jane DeGraaff and Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams, is part of a community push to support Coffs in the NSW Top Tourism Town Awards, encouraging people to vote for a destination that has brought joy to visitors for decades while continuing to evolve as a modern visitor destination.
“Coffs Harbour has brought joy to visitors for generations, and today we’re also emerging as a hub for major events, tourism and new industries and a vibrant, liveable city,” Mayor Williams said.
“Our community loves this town, and we want to see it continue to thrive. Tourism plays a vital role in our local economy, supporting jobs, small businesses and the future of our region.”
The giant banana will take shape on the sand as hundreds of locals dressed in yellow take their places to create the formation.
It is expected to be a vibrant and joyful moment that celebrates the city’s past and its future, where the community is invited to share what they love about their Coffs.
