Round 1 of the Community Grants Program and the Environment Levy Community Fund 2026-27 will officially open on 1 April 2026.

2026-27 will see $50,000 available in funding across Round 1 and Round 2 for the Community Grants Program and $25,000 for the Environment Levy Community Fund.  

Available funding categories include for the Community Grants Program include: 

· Creative Placemaking Fund: Designed to ignite participation and cultural engagement, this fund supports art projects that enhance public spaces.

· Community Support Fund: This fund backs initiatives that strengthen local connections and benefit the community.

· Community Event Sponsorship Fund: Supporting local events, this fund celebrates the vibrant spirit of the Shire through a range of community gatherings.

The Environment Levy Community Fund supports the implementation of projects to achieve the sustainability strategic directions, outcomes and aspirations for the future of our community.

Bellingen Shire Council Mayor, Cr. Steve Allan, said the grant programs are a way of providing support to organisations to progress local events and activities for the benefit of the broader community.

“These grant programs give local groups, creatives and organisations the opportunity to turn ideas into action by supporting everything from public art and community events to projects that protect biodiversity and contribute to a more sustainable future,” said Mayor Allan

There will be three drop-in sessions at each of the Shire Libraries to offer guidance and support for your application. This is a great opportunity to discuss your ideas and get expert advice to enhance your chances of success.

Library Drop-In Sessions:

· Dorrigo Library – Wednesday 8 April, 10:30am – 12:00pm

· Urunga Library – Thursday 9 April, 10:30am – 12:00pm

· Bellingen Library – Thursday 9 April, 5:00pm – 6.30pm

Mayor Allan is looking forward to seeing new initiatives that strengthen our community and create lasting positive impacts.

“Council awarded a total of $75,000 in 2025 for the Community Grants Program and the Environment Levy Community Fund, supporting 31 diverse projects across the Shire,” he said.

“Funded initiatives include upcoming events such as the Sgt Matthew Locke Charity Shield, the Dorrigo Easter Art Exhibition, the Bellingen Readers and Writers Fringe Festival, and support of the Bellingen Singers Group.”

“Community infrastructure projects were also funded, such as new paving for the Dorrigo Nursery, shelving and a point of sale system for the Urunga Community Pantry, as well as environmental initiatives such as a kitchen garden at Dorrigo High School and bush regeneration works at multiple locations across the Shire.”

Due to the competitive nature of the grant programs, Council recommends seeking advice before applying to gain a clear understanding of the expectations and how to strengthen your application. If you’re unable to attend any of the drop-in sessions, the Community Development Officer and Sustainability Officer are available for assistance during business hours on 6655 7300.
