Bellingen Soccer pathway to an Emerging Matilda

Former Bellingen FC player Halle Wamara has been selected to play in Emerging Matilda’s Melbourne tournament starting this week.

Halle has spent the last three years learning her craft as a player in Bellingen’s junior soccer team under the coaching eyes of Liz Hoy and Strider Duerinckx.

“Halle and her teammates have heroically represented the burgeoning growth of girl soccer teams on the Mid North Coast,” a club spokesperson said.

Halle Wamara and her soccer mad family recently moved to Alice Springs.  Halle now plays for the Verdi mixed soccer team in Alice.

In Australia, many girls stop playing sport during their teenage years often due to limited opportunities, support and role models.  This is especially true in Alice Springs, where pathways for girls in football are very limited.

However, The Matildas are changing the face of girls soccer all over Australia, including the Northern Territory. They had a scout in Alice Springs last month who spotted Halle’s talent.

“I play as a midfielder, inspired by Matilda’s player Kyra Cooney-Cross, who once lived in Alice Springs and played for Verdi,” Halle said.

“I hope to represent Australia one day and this tournament is an important step towards that goal.”

Living remotely means significant travel costs including Alice Springs to Darwin and Darwin to Melbourne flights plus accommodation.  Halle is seeking support from the community to help make this opportunity possible. Help her take at https://gofund.me/5101f97e5
