Bellingen High School students had a highly successful and rewarding week at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The team achieved excellent results while embracing new challenges, particularly with their first experience in handling and exhibiting pigs.

The students travelled to the Royal to exhibit Berkshire pigs they had been caring for over the past few months, sourced from Bungendore Berkshires stud.

“It was a fabulous and rewarding experience, one which the students will never and one where we learnt so much in such a short time,” said Teacher Melissa Spillett

“Students also competed with poultry donated for the show by the renowned Gibson family, caring for and preparing Ross Gibson’s Blue Orpington and Black Leghorn birds.”

Preparation included washing the birds in the days leading up to the show and maintaining clean, well-presented conditions, contributing to their success in achieving Reserve Champion and Champion respectively in their classes.

Ms Spillett said students Bodhi Fabian, Riley Smith, Jaxon Hammond and Zeek Hammond represented the school with pride, demonstrating confidence, teamwork and professionalism throughout the competition.

“With strong support from mentors, sponsors, and the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, the experience provided valuable learning opportunities both in and out of the ring.”

“We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who made this opportunity possible, with special mention to the Bellingen High P&C, Bellingen River Poultry Club, Warren Weick Real Estate, Hammond Civil Pty Ltd, Bungendore Berkshires, and Ross Gibson and family.”
