Eight local members of the Bellingen Scout Group are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime as they set their sights on attending the 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Poland.
The group, made up of seven young Scouts and one leader, will travel overseas to represent both Bellingen and Australia at what is the largest Scout gathering in the world. The World Scout Jamboree is expected to bring together around 40,000 Scouts from across the globe, creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity for young people to build friendships, develop leadership skills and experience cultures from every corner of the world.
While at the Jamboree, the Bellingen Scouts will camp as part of an international troop of around 40 Scouts, sharing responsibilities such as cooking meals, maintaining their campsite and supporting one another as they live and learn together. Over 10 days of activities, the Scouts will challenge themselves with adventures including canoeing, rock climbing, archery, hiking, snorkelling, kayaking, abseiling, canyoning and orienteering, along with many other international Scouting experiences.
Before the Jamboree even begins, the group will also take part in a seven-day pre-tour of Poland, where they will explore cultural landmarks and take part in adventure activities that showcase the country’s history and landscape.
However, getting to the other side of the world takes commitment — and support from the community that raised them.
Over the coming months, the Scouts will be fundraising locally to help cover some of the cost of attending this incredible international event. Community members will likely see the Scouts lending a hand and getting involved at several upcoming local events, including:
• Bellingen Show 9th – 10th May
• Bellingen Community Markets 17th August
• ANZAC Day Dawn Service and March
• Lions Club Fireworks
• Scout Car Wash – date and location TBA
The Scouts will also be running a raffle outside Bellingen IGA and The Providore, where locals are encouraged to stop by, say hello and hear more about the journey ahead.
“This is a huge opportunity for our young people,” said Aaron Ruigrok – 1st Bellingen Scout leader. “They’ll be representing not just Australia, but also the spirit of our Bellingen community.”
The group is encouraging locals to come and chat with the Scouts, learn about the World Scout Jamboree, and support them on their journey — whether by attending community events, purchasing a raffle ticket, or contributing via the donation QR code displayed at their stalls.
For these young adventurers, the road to Poland is about much more than travel. It’s about building confidence, discovering the wider world and bringing the spirit of Bellingen Scouting to the global stage.
With the support of the community behind them, these eight Scouts are ready to take Bellingen to the world — and bring the world back home with them.
