The Wyz Wimmin & Friends Theatre Company is ready to take to the stage for its latest show ‘SHE ♀’ which is described as an exciting mix of contemporary social commentary and innovative theatre.
Written by local playwrights and played by award-winning actors, it opens at Dorrigo’s Old Gazette Theatre on Saturday 8th August for a 7.00 pm performance which is followed by a matinee on Sunday 9th August at 2.00 pm. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at wyzwimmin.org.au under the heading ‘Ticketing’.

It features a dark comedy that was selected for performance at Lake Macquarie’s One-Act Play Festival in March, as well as a group of three monologues that come together across time and space to tell a timeless story, plus a variety of other monologues that range from the comedic to the dramatic.

A new playwright – Liz Ellis – has contributed to the mix, along with well-known Bellingen local Dorin Hart who has had one of her stories adapted for performance, and the Company is delighted to be bringing these ‘new’ voices to the stage.

A spokesperson said that since inception the Wyz Wimmin & Friends’ vision has been to attract skilled playwrights and to support their development. ‘Willa Hogarth, for example (her play is the one that was selected for the Lake Macquarie Festival) has become an award-winning playwright since joining us, and we are so proud of her.

‘As a community-based company our aim is always to contribute to the local community. We will be profit sharing with the Dorrigo Dramatic Society and we have invited Dorrigo’s CWA to cater so that it can benefit as well.

‘Our form of theatre is great for groups because the ideas presented inevitably create ongoing conversations and this production is sure to do that ( ‘SHE ’ has adult themes). So, gather a group of friends together and go online to book.   (Tickets may be available at the door, but it makes sense to purchase beforehand as performances have booked out in the past).’
