C.ex Urunga Golf Club’s winter competitions delivered another fortnight of quality golf, with several familiar names featuring prominently on the winners’ list.

Veterans were out in force at C.ex Urunga Golf Club on Monday, 13 July, with Brett Bosbach producing the best round of the day to claim the Men’s Veterans Stableford title with 38 points. Ross Hardaker finished just one point behind on 37, while Michael Bellew secured third place after a countback on 36. Nearest-to-the-pin honours went to Selwyn Newby on the 3rd, Arthur Hassett on the 9th and Lawrie Renshall on the 18th, while Bellew also claimed the longest putt on the 8th/17th holes.

The ladies completed the third round of their Championships on Wednesday, 15 July, with Karen Kennedy emerging on top after returning an impressive nett 74. Lyndee Thomas was runner-up on 76, while Lisa Guest edged Donna Navin on a countback to take third place with 78. The close scoring reflected another competitive chapter in the club championship race.

Ross Hardaker continued his consistent run of form on Thursday, 16 July, winning the Medley Stableford with 38 points. Frank Partland finished second on 34 points, while Peter Wood claimed third with 33. Wally McGill won nearest the pin on the 3rd, Garry Swain was closest on the 9th and Lawrie Renshall collected the prize on the 12th.

Donna Navin produced the standout performance in the Ladies Stableford on Friday, 17 July, finishing with an outstanding 41 points. Suzanne McLean took second on 37 points, while Jenny Tierney rounded out the placings with 33.

The two-player Ambrose on Saturday, 18 July, delivered plenty of quality golf, with Warren Rawlings and David McBaron combining brilliantly to win with a score of 64 in trying conditions. Robert Jones and Arthur Hassett claimed second after a countback on 67.25 from Brett Hoffman and Grant Homes in third. Rawlings also featured with an eagle on the 11th to earn the Great Score award. Kim Michelsen claimed nearest the pin on the 3rd, Hoffman added prizes on both the 9th and 18th, while Rex Anthony was closest on the 16th.

Anthony Shields mastered tougher conditions on Monday, 20 July, with the course playing to a PCC of +2, posting an excellent 39 points to win the Men’s Veterans Stableford. Brett Bosbach finished second with 33 points and Robert Jones took third on a countback from Ross Hardaker after both returned 32. Ross Hardaker was nearest the pin on the 3rd, visitor Chris Spratling won the 9th-hole prize and Peter Stewart claimed the 18th. Waz Botfield won the longest putt on the 8th/17th holes.

Julie Penny, visiting from Tocumwal, claimed victory in the Ladies Stableford on Wednesday, 22 July, after finishing with 33 points. Rosalyn Inskip was runner-up on 32, while Maria Swain completed the podium with 30 points.

A tightly contested Medley Stableford on Thursday, 23 July, saw Martin Tizzard prevail on a countback after matching David McGilvray with 36 points. Alan Guthrie was only one point further back in third with 35. Anthony Shields enjoyed a remarkable day around the greens by winning nearest the pin on both the 3rd and 9th holes, while Kevin Sanford collected the prizes on the 16th and 18th.

Karen Kennedy continued her strong month of golf on Friday, 24 July, taking out the Ladies Stableford with 38 points. Dianne O’Leary finished one point adrift in second on 37, while Shirley Shelton secured third with 35. Donna Navin narrowly missed the placings after a solid round of 34 points.

The fortnight concluded with another closely fought Medley Stableford on Saturday, 25 July, where John Piggott claimed top honours with 37 points. Wayne Martin secured second after a countback on 36 from Robert Jones, who finished third on the same score. Adam Crotty added an eagle on the 10th to earn the Great Score award and also won nearest the pin on the 3rd. Warren Rawlings was closest on the 9th, John Leahy claimed the 12th-hole prize, David McGilvray won nearest the pin on the 16th and Glenn Petersen rounded out the day by taking the honours on the 18th.
