On Monday, 27 July, Kim Michelsen produced the best score of the day at C.ex Urunga Golf Club, winning the Men’s Veterans Stableford with an impressive 39 points. Robert Jones claimed second place on a countback after returning 38 points, narrowly ahead of Grant Cardow, who also finished on 38. Nearest-the-pin honours went to Alan Titley on the 3rd hole and Peter Inskip on the 9th hole.
The ladies teamed up for the Urunga Lakes Challenge on Wednesday, 29 July, with Rosalyn Inskip and Julie Penny combining superbly to win the two-player Ambrose event with a score of 70. Donna Navin and Lois Milham finished runners-up on 70.75, while Jeanette Robinson and Karen Kennedy secured third place on 76.
Peter Wood continued his strong form on Thursday, 30 July, taking out the Medley Single Stableford with 39 points. Ross Hardaker finished second on 35 points, while Alan Guthrie claimed third on a countback with 34. Nearest-the-pin winners were Waz Botfield on the 3rd hole, Wally McGill on the 9th, Michael Trist on the 12th, Geoff Rackham on the 16th and Rudolf Brocker on the 18th.
In the Ladies Final Shootout Stableford, sponsored by Anchors, on Friday, 31 July, Donna Navin claimed victory with 39 points. Christine Fahey followed closely in second on 38 points, while Wendy O’Neill rounded out the placings with 36 points.
The opening round of the Men’s Club Championship and Monthly Medal was played on Saturday, 1 August, with Adam Crotty setting the pace courtesy of a polished gross score of 75. David McBaron was second on a countback with 76, just ahead of Brett Hoffman, who also finished on 76. Nearest-the-pin winners were Michael Bellew on the 3rd hole, Matthew O’Brien on the 9th, Terry Van Dyk on the 12th, John Greensill on the 16th and Crotty on the 18th. Grant Homes also enjoyed a memorable moment with an eagle on the 2nd hole.
The Men’s Veterans Stroke event on Monday, 3 August, was won by Waz Botfield with an excellent nett 70. Kevin Sanford finished second on 71 and Brett Bosbach secured third place on 72. Andrew O’Keeffe was nearest the pin on the 3rd hole, while Grant Cardow collected the prizes on both the 9th and 18th holes.
A tightly contested Ladies Stableford on Wednesday, 5 August, saw Donna Navin prevail on a countback after finishing with 34 points. Lisa Guest was second, also on 34 points, while Faye Jones completed the top three with 34 points.
Martin Tizzard emerged victorious in the Medley Single Stableford on Thursday, 6 August, after posting 38 points. Rod Macpherson finished one point behind in second place, while Peter Wood claimed third on a countback with 35 points. Wally McGill enjoyed a standout day, winning nearest-the-pin honours on both the 3rd and 9th holes. John Piggott was nearest on the 12th, John Leahy on the 16th and David McGilvray on the 18th.
The Ladies Monthly Medal on Friday, 7 August, belonged to Helen Trist, whose outstanding nett 68 secured victory. Dianne O’Leary finished second with 72, while Rosalyn Inskip took third place on a countback after returning 73.
Round two of the Men’s Club Championship was contested on Saturday, 8 August, and David McBaron strengthened his championship credentials with a superb gross score of 70. Adam Crotty continued his consistent form to finish second on 72, while Grant Homes secured third place with 77. McBaron also claimed nearest-the-pin honours on the 18th hole and capped a memorable day with an eagle on the 14th
