I’m Rhiannon and
I’d love you to come along for a yarn on the Bellinger River—a place where I grew up and spent the first 20 years of my life.
We’ll be joined by local Elders, conservationists and community members, who’ll be sharing their own stories, knowledge and connections to the Bellinger River. Together we’ll yarn about why this river is so special, the incredible wildlife that calls it home, and how we can work together to help protect our environment and live in harmony with nature, as I was taught growing up by the people who came before me.
As an Aboriginal Mununjali woman and marine scientist, I’m passionate about bringing people together through conversation, connection and conservation. We’ll also yarn about marine science, river science and ocean science, and how everyone can play a role in caring for our waterways and coastlines.
I’ll also share some of the work Saltwater Sistas does, including community clean-ups, citizen science, environmental education and ways you can get involved.
This is a free community event. If you’d like to support the work Saltwater Sistas does, donations are always appreciated and help us continue delivering community programs, conservation events and environmental education—but there’s absolutely no obligation.
If you’d like to, feel free to bring along a thermos of tea or coffee and something to share for morning tea. It’ll be a relaxed morning of good conversation, community and connection by the river.
Everyone is welcome, and I’d love to see you there.
Come for a yarn, connect with community, and celebrate and care for the beautiful Bellinger River and our surrounds together.Ps please being something to sit on wether thats a picnic mat or chair. Meet north side of Lavenders Bridge on the river bank where the public toilets are and car park.
