Bellingen Shire resident Peter Allison, who resides in Fernmount, recently competed in the surf lifesaving Pool Rescue National championships. The titles were held Aug 7 – 9 at the Adelaide Aquatic and Leisure Centre and catered for male and female swimmers from under 12s up to 75 years and over.
Peter contested the 75 years and over 100m obstacle race, the 100m manikin tow with fins, the 50m manikin carry and the the100m manikin carry with fins. He was successful in winning all four. His times would have seen him take 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronzes in the younger 70 – 74 years age group.
In team events, he and his Kurrawa team mate Phil took out the silver medal in the 70 years and over line throw relay. The pair however retained their national record for the event and still hold the world record they set in 2024.
Kurrawa finished 7th in the 200 years and over 4 x 50m obstacle race relay and narrowly missed out on taking the bronze in the 200 years and over 4 x 50m medley relay. In this race Peter swam the 50m freestyle with fins. His team was beaten by 0.19 secs for third place.
Despite turning 80 next year, Peter is already planning to contest next years Nationals. These will take place Aug 6-8 in Hobart, Tasmania.
