Residents at RFBI Bellingen Masonic Village are forming new connections with local students through a creative intergenerational program that brings art, conversation and community together.

Students from a nearby public school recently visited the village, spending time sketching alongside residents as part of the new initiative. The visit gave students the opportunity to connect with older Australians, listen to their stories and capture their personalities through art.

The sketches will be turned into finished artworks and presented back to residents, creating a lasting reminder of the experience for both generations.

Intergenerational programs like this are part of ongoing commitments to strengthening connections between residents and the wider community.

Jason D’Onofrio, General Manager at RFBI Bellingen Masonic Village said the initiative has already had a positive impact.

“Seeing students and residents sit side by side, sharing stories and creating something together has been incredibly meaningful,” Mr D’Onofrio said.

“Our residents value the opportunity to connect with younger people and programs like this help foster a strong sense of belonging and connection within the village.”

The intergenerational program will continue monthly, with students returning regularly to spend time with residents and build ongoing relationships.

For students, the experience offers a unique way to learn outside the classroom while gaining a deeper understanding of older generations and the importance of community connection.

RFBI continues to support initiatives that promote wellbeing, reduce social isolation and create meaningful experiences for residents across its villages.
