Bellingen Shire residents are invited to join the Mayor and Councillors for a ShireSpeaks session at Maam Gaduying Park in Bellingen on Wednesday 10 June from 1-3pm outside the Bellingen Library.
The ShireSpeaks sessions are an opportunity for community members to chat with their local council representatives, ask questions, and find out more information on issues that matter to them.
Bellingen Shire Council Mayor, Cr. Steve Allan, introduced the concept of the ShireSpeak sessions when he became Mayor to give the community an informal opportunity to meet with Councillors.
“An important part of ShireSpeaks is that it rotates through the towns of the Bellingen Shire. We try to get to Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga once each year as a way of making ourselves available to the community and going to where the people are,” said Mayor Allan.
“Some of the things that people often talk to us about include local projects, ideas for improvement, questions about new or changing things, how to have their say on council projects and documents, and generally just having a chat about local matters that are important to them.”
“Thank a First Responder Day is also on at the Maam Gaduying Park from 11am-1pm, so feel free to come along to thank the people who keep us safe in natural disasters, let me cook you a BBQ lunch with the help of the Lions, and stay around to chat to the Councillors at our ShireSpeaks session afterwards.”
