Off duty highway patrol officer and truck driver infront of protestors that is laying under truck

On Wednesday 7th of October at 12:00PM, a group of young forest defenders stopped traffic on Hyde Street in Bellingen, blocking a logging truck from continuing on its haulage route through the main street of town.

They shared a message calling out the profits the logging industry makes and how that corruption is driving the extinction of endangered native species and climate catastrophe.

The group remained on the road and demanded the logging truck to stop with protestors sitting down and laying underneath the vehicle. The group held traffic at the crossing for around 15 minutes with large crowds gathered around the action.

This event fell on the same day as the opening of the 2026 National Forestry Symposium in Canberra where relevant officials, government bodies, & organisations are gathering to discuss ‘social license’ and ‘effective engagement’ within the forestry industry.

This action is apart of a wider discussion of resistance occurring in the region addressing controversial logging operations.
