Yurruungga Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) invites the Bellingen community to a special NAIDOC Week film screening event at Bellingen Memorial Hall on Saturday 11 July 2026.
This free community event will feature two powerful Aboriginal-led documentaries: In the Circle of Life and Nagana Yarrbayn: The Water Protectors. Together, these films explore cultural strength, connection to Country, and the ongoing responsibility to care for land and water.
In the Circle of Life shares the voices of Aboriginal Elders, healers and cultural leaders across the continent, offering insights into culture, resilience and healing through connection to Country.
Nagana Yarrbayn: The Water Protectors follows Wangan and Jagalingou Senior Cultural Custodian Adrian Burragubba and the community’s fight to protect the sacred Doongmabulla Springs. The film highlights the importance of protecting water, cultural responsibility, and standing strong for Country.
Following the screenings, audiences will hear from a special guest speaker involved in one of the films, with a short Q&A session creating space for local conversation and reflection.
The afternoon may also include a Gumbaynggirr song performance by Uncle Micklo and choir, grounding the event in local culture and connection to Country.
YAC Chief Operating Officer Brentyn Lugnan said the event is about bringing people together.
“This is about community coming together on Country — to listen, learn and reflect. These films carry powerful messages, and giving people space to yarn afterwards is just as important as the screening itself.”
The event is free and open to everyone, with donations welcome.
Attendees are invited to stay after the screenings and enjoy free tea, coffee and lemon myrtle scones.
This event has been proudly supported by funding from the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).
