A fortnight of quality golf at C.ex Urunga Golf Club produced its share of tight finishes, standout scores and some impressive scoring as August gave way to September, with the Monthly Medals and Parish Cup adding plenty of interest.

On Monday, August 24, the men’s veterans battled it out in Stableford conditions, with Alan Titley taking the honours with 35 points. Grant Cardow finished runner-up on countback after also returning 34 points, while Waz Botfield claimed third with 34. Martin Broderick was the man to beat around the greens, collecting nearest-the-pin prizes on the third and ninth holes, while Gary Teale was closest on the 18th.

Wednesday, August 26, belonged to Jeanette Robinson in the Ladies Monthly Stableford Bonanza. Robinson edged Helen Trist on countback after both returned 31 points, with Lois Milham also finishing on 31 to take third.

The medley field was headed by David Baldock on Thursday, August 27, with 35 points enough for a one-point victory over Linne Street. Joe Street secured third on countback with 33. Street also showed his touch around the greens, claiming nearest-to-pin prizes on the ninth and 16th, while Lawrie Renshall took the third and Kevin Sanford the 12th.

Donna Navin produced the standout score in the Ladies Stableford and Parish Cup on Friday, August 28, posting 38 points to win comfortably. Dianne O’Leary followed with 35, while Lisa Guest took third on countback with 34.

Saturday, August 29, saw Grant Homes and Michael McCormick combine brilliantly in the two-person Ambrose, their nett 65.25 securing the win. Kevin Sanford and Roger Young were runners-up with 65.75, while Paul Bastick and Dean Riley finished third on 67.5. The nearest-the-pin honours were shared around, with Paul Fitzgerald taking the third, Adam Crotty the ninth, Mick Wood the 12th, Homes the 16th and Michael Trist the 18th.

The veterans were back in action on Monday, August 31, with Ross Hardaker producing 39 points to take first place. Tom Faulkner was second on countback with 38, ahead of Kim Michelsen on 38. Hardaker added to his winning round by taking the nearest to pin on the 18th, while Peter Inskip won the third and Michael Bellew the ninth.

Christine Fahey continued her strong run on Wednesday, September 2, scoring 39 points to win the Ladies Stableford. Rosalyn Inskip finished second on countback with 38, with Faye Jones third on 38.

Geoff Rackham edged Ross Hardaker on countback in the Medley Stableford on Thursday, September 3, both players finishing with 36 points. Garry Swain was third on countback with 35. David McGilvray claimed the third-hole nearest to pin, John Buganey the ninth, Peter Jenson the 12th and Anthony Shields the 18th.

The Ladies Monthly Medal on Friday, September 4, produced another strong performance from Fahey, who took the nett event with 69. Tracey Swanston finished second with 70, while Lisa Guest was third with 71.

The fortnight finished with the Men’s Monthly Medal on Saturday, September 5, and Wally McGill produced the round of the week with a nett 61 to claim the medal. John Greensill of Bellingen Golf Club was second with 65, while Warren Rawlings finished third with 68. Greensill also picked up the nearest-to-pin prize on the 18th, with John Greensill and Arthur Hassett taking the other honours on the third and ninth respectively, John Leahy on the 12th and Roger Young on the 16th.
