Sailing offers a unique experience for engaging with our beautiful waterways in the Bellinger Valley - being in the moment, mindfulness with physical movement, situational awareness and mental agility, wellbeing and health benefits while learning new skills that take you away from screens and every day worries.

Beginning on October 17 there will be 5 weeks (Saturdays) of hands-on learning, completing the Australian Sailing National Small Boat Start 1 and 2 courses on the beautiful waters of the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers.

“Over the last few years, the Urunga Sail Training Club ran a Women on water and school’s programs, group or individual sailing opportunities on our rivers. With our accredited AS instructors able to teach students how to confidently master and crew a sailing dinghy. Our instructors started as junior sailors in these Courses, and are now Instructing,” Mr.Ridgley, Principal of the Discover Sailing Centre said.

Behind the small volunteer Club, is Australian Sailing which offers opportunities from learning the basics onto intermediatory Pathways to go into racing, instructing and coaching.

Volunteers are always welcome to be more involved in the Club's activities, with anything from assisting on sailing days to helping with grant writing.

The courses are for beginners and anyone wanting to brush up on their sailing skills: so, no experience is necessary… and skills learnt can be transferred to crewing and sailing on larger boats.
