After a fortnight of persistent rain, opportunities to hit the fairways at C.ex Urunga Golf Club have been few and far between, with just three competitions managing to escape the wet weather. Despite the interruptions, there was still some quality golf on display, beginning on Monday, 26 October 2026, when Kevin Sanford took out the Men’s Vets Stableford with a solid 35 points. Grant Cardow was hot on his heels, finishing runner-up with 34 points, while Brett Bosbach secured third place with 33. Bosbach also collected the nearest-to-pin prize on the 3rd hole, with Kim Michelsen taking the honours on the 9th and Arthur Hassett proving the most accurate on the 18th.

The ladies enjoyed their chance to return to competition on Friday, 30 October 2026, with a closely contested Single Stableford producing a countback finish. Christine Fahey and Jenny Tierney could not be separated after both returned impressive rounds of 35 points, but it was Fahey who claimed the victory on a countback. Tierney had to settle for second, while Dianne O’Leary completed the top three with 32 points. With the weather having played havoc with the golfing calendar, it was a welcome opportunity for the ladies to get another competition completed.

Saturday, 31 October 2026, brought another closely fought contest, with Allan Thomas producing an excellent round of +3 to claim victory in the Medley Vs Par competition. Arthur Hassett and David Tully were locked together at +2, with Hassett taking second place on a countback and Tully finishing third. David McBaron was the standout performer in the nearest-to-pin contests, showing his accuracy to claim both the 3rd and 18th holes. Glenn Petersen collected the prize on the 9th, while Hassett capped off a successful afternoon by adding the nearest-to-pin honours on the 16th to his runner-up finish. With only three competitions completed over the fortnight, golfers will be hoping for a welcome spell of sunshine and a return to a more regular playing schedule.

Looking ahead to this Sunday, 8 November, C.ex Urunga Golf Club will host the SGT Matthew Locke MG Memorial Golf Day, an opportunity for golfers to come together and honour the memory of a local hero. There are still spots available for those wishing to take part, with bookings and further information available by contacting the club on 6655 6161.
